Confirmation and recovery period

The confirmation period refers to the duration we wait after observing a failure before initiating a new incident. On the other hand, the recovery period indicates the amount of time a monitor must remain up before it is automatically marked as recovered, and the associated incident is resolved.

Example

Here's an example to help understand how these periods work. Let's consider a monitor with a 30-second check frequency, an immediate confirmation period, and a 1-minute recovery period.

  • When this monitor detects a downtime, it immediately creates an incident due to the immediate start of the confirmation period.
  • If the next check, after 30 seconds, shows the monitor as available (up and working), the confirmation period countdown begins. This countdown lasts for 60 seconds, during which two additional checks are performed. Both checks must be valid in order for the incident to automatically resolve.

If any of the checks fail during the recovery period, the counter is reset, and the monitor once again waits for a valid check to initiate the recovery period.

To modify the confirmation or recovery period, follow these steps:

  • Go to the Monitors section.
  • Select the desired monitor.
  • Click on Configure in the headline.
  • Navigate to Advanced settings.
  • Set the dropdown menu to your preferred period.

TIP

By adjusting the confirmation and recovery periods, you can tailor the incident handling and resolution process to meet your specific needs.

Note

Please note that the available period options may vary depending on the monitoring tool or platform you are using.
